eclecticRed on Hiatus…

I should have updated awhile back but I just haven’t found the time! Unfortunately it looks like I’ll be taking a hiatus..not sure how long yet but at least until I get myself a laptop and have a little portability.

I have talked about what I would do with this site in the past. I’ve decided to keep it up. At least for another year. I love tinkering with web stuff and still would love to re-do things. Would love to keep my biz going..maybe even taking it in another direction. Right now just isn’t the time though. Work has got me beat, wiped out, and pouring tears and sweat! Literally!!

So on that note if you come across me somewhere in this vast internet take a look at my portfolio. I plan to add to it as time allows…maybe even drop a comment or a mail to me? I’d love it but can’t promise I’ll get back to you any time soon.  Anyway thanks to everyone who has supported me and sent me notes! I’ll be back hopefully soon Smile

Oh and I’ve thought about this and have decided to post just in case the economy/recession has got you needing to turn for help.

WHAT TO REMEMBER IF YOU HAVE TO APPLY FOR STATE BENEFITS!

  • First off call your local office to find out what to bring with you. It will save you a lot of time/aggravation and make your caseworker happy if you are prepared.
  • If in doubt and you can’t find out what to bring? Well bring the PRIOR 3 months income..ALL the pay stubs from your or your husband/wife or anyone else that’s working, job. IF you get disability, bring the awards letter (you know you have this stuff). ANY income at all bring PROOF of how much and how often you receive it.
  • No income? At least bring a letter from a non-relative stating that fact. Recently laid off? Be prepared to show proof of termination and last pay received, when and how much.  No termination letter? Get a statement from your ex-employer. Might as well get it before you go apply, they’ll ask for it anyway.
  • Bring a letter from a non-relative THAT DOES NOT LIVE IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD that states who DOES live in your household with you, make sure it has your address on it and that they sign, date and put their phone # on it.
  • Bills. Bring proof of all utility bills you pay, even if they don’t use them all it’s best to be prepared. Bring proof of the amount of rent or mortgage you pay and remember.. do NOT be surprised or upset if the worker asks you how your paying these things if you have no income!!! For crying out loud no one is stupid where your going..don’t be ridiculous and expect them to believe you pay 900$ a month rent but have no income or only get 200$ a week pay!
  • Drivers license/ID and or SS cards.
  • Bank account, 401k, stocks/bonds.  And sorry but YES they do look at that. How could you possibly expect the gov. to feed you while you sit on the $65k available to you in your 401k? We know it’s for retirement but it’s also for emergency…be grateful you have something to fall back on and quit bitching about having to **gasp** use it!!
  • Do NOT expect to get benefits quickly. In my state we have 30 days to work your case, we have at least 100 people ahead of you..everyone is in a desperate situation, unfortunately you are no different that all the people we’ve seen before you.
  • Do NOT call your worker and ask him/her about your case status before the end of the 30 days…it takes at least 1hr. a day to just CLEAR the voice mails we get…that is a hour we could spend actually working up your case.
  • Do NOT be rude. No one is judging you, believe me, most of us have seen soo many people already that day they all run together..we don’t judge. Also a lot of us (workers) have been there..done that.
  • Try to act reasonable. Getting upset and yelling about things that we have no control over won’t help you and just MIGHT get your file pushed to the back of the lot…
  • Keep your appointment. If you want ongoing benefits just show up, bring your paperwork and you’ll be good to go. Don’t be upset if we can’t re-schedule you to a convenient time for you…we might fit you in at the end of the month but then your benefits will be late. Don’t complain. You have to do SOMETHING to get these free services that HELP you through these hard times.  oh and that brings me to my last and most important point…
  • THESE ARE SERVICES TO HELP!! Not services to depend and live on. Drop the sense of entitlement. The tax payers do not want to nor should they have to take you or your children to raise. Everyone needs some help now and again but it’s meant to be temporary or supplementary…not to live on the rest of your life.
